Great spot to train whether you want to compete at a high level or just use BJJ as a positive and healthy way to spend your time.  I have been training BJJ for 5+ years in the Bay Area and the head instructor at ZMATA, Aaron Zaballos, is one of the best people I have met in this community.  He was ranked best in the world at brown belt in his age division after a successful competition push in 2014.  He also has a Master’s degree in Sports Management (i think).

I have seen the way he conducts his kids classes and I think others could model after him.  The right amount of structure that kids need balanced with freedom and pace to match their shorter attention spans.  I would have him teach my kid.  Oh an the network of world class BJJ practitioners in the Soul Fighters network is crazy.  If you live in this area, don’t give it another thought, just go get your free trial started.

If you haven’t already started training, you’re missing out!  Aaron is the owner and head instructor at ZMata martial arts academy.  I have known Aaron for over 2 years now and found him to be a great athlete, instructor and training partner.   I’d go so far as to say he has the perfect combination of all three.  He is a champion in both Gi and No Gi Jiu Jitsu, and he knows the dedication, hard work and technique it takes to reach the pinnacle in the sport.   He is also on the cutting edge, staying current with his technique and studies.   He is able to take these experiences and transform his students into champions in kind.   I am proud to take my son, and hopefully, my youngest to Aaron to work under his tutelage.  Zmata is in Castro Valley and is a perfectly nestled in the heart of the East Bay right off the 580 Freeway.

I myself am a black belt in Jiu Jitsu and know a good instructor, school and positive training atmosphere, when I experience it!

First, I must say Aaron is like a brother to me so this post may be a little bit bias.  With that said, I first met Aaron through the great sport of Jiu Jitsu.  Even in the beginning, Aaron was always respectful and willing to help anybody out WHENEVER they needed it.  Our friendship grew from Jiu Jitsu and he always respectfully challenged me and those around to become their best.  Fast forward several years and several World Titles for Aaron and he is still the same person and a great Jiu Jitsu instructor.  The most important thing I can say is that not only are you going to become a lot better at the sport, you will be a better person to train and learn with him.  If you are even on the fence about training with him, I suggest you give it a week and you will quickly see what I am saying.
